Kohl's AAPI & Disney Collection

In summer of 2021, the Kohl’s marketing team reached out to me and asked if I wanted to be the spotlight artist for their 2022 Asian American and Pacific Islander collection. My answer was an obvious YES, especially after they told me that I would have the opportunity to draw Mickey and Minnie Mouse in my style since they have a license with Disney.

Kohl's is the largest department store chain in the United States, with 1,162 locations, operating stores in every U.S. state except Hawaii. So you can imagine my excitement when presented with this opportunity! It was an honor to be able to represent my AAPI community in this way and to be able to incorporate elements of my Korean culture alongside my unique style into art that would be distributed across the nation.

I created all of the art below on my iPad in Procreate. Huge thanks to Dawn Doan, Dawn Agee, Jonathan Carnehl, Alia Dadarkar, Matt McFall, and the Kohl’s creative team for trusting and collaborating with me - you made the process incredibly easy and gave me so much creative autonomy - thank you!

Minnie feeds Mickey some of her banchan (or korean side dishes), which is an act of love in Korea. 더 먹어 means “eat more” and equivalent to “have some of my own food to give you strength."

A modular pattern which can be scaled for both a shirt and blanket. It's made up of the Korean alphabet, or Hangul, which looks like abstract shapes.
